What is the Workforce Analytics Capacity Assessment?

The Workforce Analytics Capacity Assessment is a developmental self-assessment tool that helps organizations examine their capacity and practices related to using workforce data. It assesses six areas of workforce analytics capacity: culture, knowledge and skills, technology, data,accessibility and utility, and practice. Based on responses to a series of questions for each area, the tool provides maturity ratings and levels, along with recommended next steps.

Who is it supposed to use it?

The assessment is best completed with input from key people such as leaders,managers, and HR and IT specialists, who can provide complementary information and perspectives about the six areas of workforce analytics capacity. Although an individual may complete the assessment based on their best understanding, group input typically results in more accurate and useful results.

How do we use it?

Instructions are provided on the right side of the main page. The Menu side bar on the left is used to navigate through each area of capacity. Dropdowns are used to enter responses to each assessment question. After all questions are answered, further instructions are provided for recommended next steps.

How much time does it take?

The assessment includes 36 questions with five-point rating scales, so entering ratings into the tool takes minimal time. However, reviewing, interpreting, and considering each question—along with any discussion needed to arrive at ratings—requires more time. With the right people at the table and a modest amount of reflection and discussion, the assessment can typically be completed in about one hour.

The process may take longer when participants bring different perspectives, when there is limited shared understanding of current practices, or when the group chooses to explore areas of uncertainty or disagreement in more depth. Although this can extend the time needed, these moments often add value by clarifying assumptions and surfacing important insights.

What does our agency do with the information from the assessment?

The assessment results are intended to inform reflection, prioritization, and action. Agencies can use the results to identify strengths to build on, areas where capacity is limited, and which gaps may be most important to address first.

The summary page provides recommended next steps, including reviewing results across capacities, identifying barriers and facilitators to improvement, prioritizing foundational areas, and developing an action plan tailored to your agency’s needs and resources.

What does the QIC-WA do with the data we enter into the assessment tool?

Nothing. The QIC-WA does not save your data.
